Meat Cove, Cape Breton Island (Nova Scotia)

Several of the Cape Breton Post articles on Meat Cove focus on a Hiking Festival and also on a group of bikers that came to the Meat Cove region of Cape Breton Island. Another article featured news about the St. Margaret parish paying off it's mortgage.

Meat Cove is an area that loosely resembles a village and that is owned by the descendants of the original settlers. The 16 mile road between Bay St. Lawrence and Meat Cove has no turnoffs other than people's homes and is unpaved the final 10 miles. At Meat Cove, they have a campground overlooking the ocean and a tiny shack to sell food and whatnot. We continued on past the campground to see where the gravel road would take us. It ended about 100 yards uphill from the campground in somebody's front yard.

To go to Meat Cove is to go there on purpose. It's not on the way to anyplace else.

On our return we ran into some nice folks from rural Massachusetts who took our photo overlooking the campground and sea (photo below). They recommended we stop at Neil's Harbour for lunch at The Chowder House. As seafood lovers, they claimed it had the best seafood chowder they'd tasted.

Our next stop was Neil's Harbour for lunch at The Chowder House, so we left Meat Cove.
