Earlier this morning we'd torn down camp, visited Peggy's Cove EARLY before other tourists started showing up and crowding things, dropped by West Dover and Yankee Harbor, and visited the Swiss Air Flight 111 memorial. The Swiss Air Flight 111 Memorial was the stop prior to arriving in Lunenburg.

On our way to Lunenburg to visit the Atlantic Fisheries Museum we stopped to get into the Atlantic Fishing spirit.

There were 3 floors to the museum and two ships to explore, the Cape Sable and Theresa O'Connor. Never having been on a large vessel, it was neat to be able to explore these at our leisure.

You can even sit in what looks like the captains seat and hold onto the steering wheel.

Cape Sable Island is at the south-western most end of Nova Scotia. And we don't know anything about Cape Sable Island's History. We've never even tripped over a book titled Cape Sable Island History. But we have been onboard the Cape Sable and it does have an interesting history, especially for city folk from a farming region in a land-locked state in the USA. The Cape Sable was a working fisherman's vessel.

Anyone for fish juice? This item in the museum is a fish press. After processing fish, anything that was left was thrown in the fish press to get the last bit of 'goodness' out. Mmmmm....yummmy...

Photo flensing-knives-3.jpg is shot of flensing knives, which are used (were used, now illegal) to peel blubber off of whales. Lynn was nicknamed Flenser by her brother Doug just to get on her nerves and inspired by a book named Blubber by Judy Blume. Blubber Judy Blume is it a banned book Blubber.

That thing at Lynn's feet IS a jawbone of a whale. Bone whale, but not bone carving whale, and not bone corset whale.

And since she's an X-ray Technologist (Radiologic Technologist and CT Tech) she was rather tickled at the size of a whale vertebrae, because she is more than familiar with seeing the human variety (about the size of a silver dollar) several times a week on the job.

Done with Lunenburg, we head for Halifax. Our hotel awaits. And if we check in early, inContinental Airlines might be able to get us our bags tonight. Although it wouldn't surprise me if they can't get them from the Halifax Airport to downtown Halifax. What a Continental Airlines vacation!
