Photos range across the entire Nova Scotia Province, and across PEI. We weren't paid to take or publish these, but merely wanted to capture and display our vacation experience as it occurred on PEI and Nova Scotia.

Below is the factual overview (perhaps a little dry) about Nova Scotia. The rest of the website avoids the dry-overview style, and instead, read more like a travelogue.


Nova Scotia is a latin phrase that means 'New Scotland.'

It's a one of Canada's 10 provinces, and is the second smallest. Prince Edward Island is the smallest.

The larger communities of Nova Scotia's are along the coastline, and the smaller communities are inland where forests and mountains are more dominant. There are over 3000 lakes in Nova Scotia.

Except for the Isthmus of Chignecto (28 km or 17 miles) which connects Nova Scotia to New Brunswick, the boundry of Nova Scotia is entirely surrounded by the Atlantic ocean. So, all but 28 km of 7500 km (or 17 of 4660 miles) are Atlantic coastline.

The mainland of Nova Scotia lies northeast of Maine, USA and east of New Brunswick, CAN. The island portion of Nova Scotia, Cape Breton Island, comprises a large amount of the far eastern end of Nova Scotia.

In addition to the sizable and scenic Cape Breton Island, which is completely drivable from the mainland, starting at the Canso Causeway, Nova Scotia's coastline is decorated by over 3800 coastal islands.

A couple of natural features that make Nova Scotia unique are it's Bay of Fundy (which it shares with New Brunswick). The Bay of Fundy is renowned for it's dramatic tide changes - the highest change from high to low tide in the world. Also, Nova Scotia boasts several deep-water harbors that remain ice-free year-round. That's pretty impressive considering how far north Nova Scotia lies.

We chose to visit Nova Scotia due to the picturesque settings of it's seaside cities, many of which feature full-time professional fishing fleets. Search the Web It's not uncommon to see boats, fishing nets, and lobster traps as you drive from town-to-town along the coastline.

Of Nova Scotia's 940,000 inhabitants, 370,000 live in the capital city of Halifax. The remaining 570,000 live throughout the other 25,000 scenic square miles (53,000 square km).
